Stain Guide: Animal Fats

This is a 4th generation dry cleaner's guide for removing an animal fat stain!

What you need
  • Dish soap
  • All-purpose stain-remover spray (with the enzyme lipase)
  • Cleaning brush
Steps
  1. Mix a solution of 2 or 3 drops of dish soap and 1 cup of warm water. Work this solution into the stain and tamp it in with the brush.
  2. Treat with the all-purpose stain remover (the enzyme needed to break down animal fat is lipase).
  3. Allow these pretreatments to sit on the stain for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Wash as recommended on the care label.
  5. Inspect before drying. If the stain was removed, dry as recommended on the care label; if not, repeat steps 1 and 2 and allow the pretreatment to sit on the stain overnight prior to rewashing.
  6. Rewash on a warm or high water temperature.
