Stain Guide: Ash

This is a 4th generation dry cleaner's guide for removing an ash stain!

What you need
  • Baking and/or washing soda
Steps
  1. Wipe or gently brush away any physical bits of the remaining stain.
  2. Create a paste of equal parts water and baking or washing soda. Work this solution into the stain with a soft brush and allow pretreatment to sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Add ¼ cup of washing or baking soda into the drum of your washing machine and wash as recommended on the care label.
  4. Inspect before drying. If the stain was removed, dry as recommended on the care label; if not, repeat the steps above.
  5. If the odor and stain remain, take your garment to a dry cleaner. Dry-cleaning solvent excels at removing ash, soot, and smoke stains and odors.
